About Tappeto Volante Projects

Tappeto Volante opened its doors in September 2020.

Amid the devastating economic fallout caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which disproportionately impacted the arts sector, curator Paola Gallio, in collaboration with Jared Deery, JJ Manford, and Elisa Soliven, sought to provide a safe space for underrepresented artists, performers, and emerging curators to bring projects and productions to life. By transforming the entryway of their former art studios under the direction of Paola Gallio, they have created an exhibition space that also serves as a community hub, residency program, and multidisciplinary performance space.

Tappeto Volante, which means flying carpet in Italian, is a space intended to help uplift and rebuild the arts. It is a celebration of the resilience of our art community, a pledge of our active participation in the New York City Renaissance, and an affirmation of our values of inclusivity, gender equality, and BIPOC empowerment.
